A presentation evening was held at the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre recently as a celebration for the young people who successfully completed the Prince’s Trust programme.

During the hour long event, held on Thursday, August 14, team members explained to an audience of over 80 friends, family members and local partnership agencies, the activities they had been involved with and also shared their own personal achievements.

The 12-week programme is delivered by Aberdeen Foyer in partnership with North East Scotland College.

Over the 12 weeks the young participants successfully completed a five day outward bounds course in Ballater where they took part in canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling and a mountain climb.

As part of their community project the group created a butterfly garden for local schoolchildren at James Ramsay Park in Fraserburgh.

To raise money for the project, the team carried out a soup and sweet lunch and a sponsored leg wax.

Each team member completed a two week work placement with employers including Aberdeenshire Council landscaping services, Asda Fraserburgh, Kessock Park, MacDuff Aquarium, Banff Springs, Fife Lodge in Banff, Hot Spot Peterhead and Gray and Adams.

Members also planned, organised and delivered five days of activities for various groups in their community.

The activities organised by team members included bingo and a quiz at Banff Care Home, crafts at Happy Days Nursery, a beach clean and, to finish their week, a car wash in aid of the local RNLI.

As well as their local community project work, the young people gained nationally recognised qualifications and passed both Emergency First Aid at Work and Elementary Food Hygiene short courses.

Commenting, Prince’s Trust Team Leader John Smyth said: “The team worked so well over the last 12 weeks and to see them up on stage tonight, full of confidence, retelling their stories, was unbelievable.

“Tonight shows just how well the team programme works.”
