MORE than £1,700 has been donated to the Fraserburgh Community Nurses from the proceeds of this year’s Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally.

The annual car rally regularly attracts thousands of folk from throughout the north-east and this year was no exception, with a host of vintage cars and tractors on display and numerous fundraising stalls.

This year’s funds purchased eight Repose overlay mattresses and cushions for the community nursers.

The equipment helps aid the prevention and treatment of pressure sores and ulcers.

It is used mainly for palliative care for end of life patients, providing comfort for those who have chosen to be treated at home.

The mattresses are compact, transportable and effective and will be used in the Fraserburgh area by the nine community nurses, who have a case load of more than 200 regular patients.

Meanwhile, a further £2,000 was also donated to Brian Wood towards the purchase of a wheelchair-adapted bicycle.

James Gray of vintage car rally organisers Gray & Adams of Fraserburgh, went along to present some of the community nurses with the mattrasses.

He was accompanied by his wife Catherine.
