A long-standing community councillor was presented with an award by the council in recognition of his work in the North-East.
William Thomson has been a member of the Rathen, Memsie & Cortes District Community Council for over twenty years.
He was given a Long Service Certificate to celebrate his decades of contribution to the local area.
Attending the presentation of the award were Fraserburgh councillors: Brian Topping; John Cox; Ian Tait; Charles Buchan, and Michael Watt.
Mr Thomson became a community councillor on June, 10 1993, after much ‘arm-twisting’ by the late Gordon Chegwyn - who was secretary at the time.
As well as being a community councillor, Mr Thomson has been the chairperson and trustee of Rathen Public Hall for over 40 years.
Chairperson of Rathen, Memsie & Cortes District Community Council Ian Campbell described Billy as the ‘cornerstone of the community’.
He said: “Over the last twenty-two years, I can never recall a meeting without Billy being present, until recently when he underwent a hip operation.
“He has a great knowledge of the area having lived in it for over fifty years.”
