Taxi clampdown across Buchan

TAXIS and private hire cars were inspected by police throughout Banff and Buchan over the weekend in a bid to ensure they are complying with regulations.

A road policing initiative was carried out in the Aberdeenshire area in relation to taxis and private hire cars.

The purpose of the initiative, which ran from Friday, January 14 to Sunday, January 16, was to ensure that drivers and operators were complying with current licensing requirements and to ensure vehicle standards were being maintained.

Officers from the Road Policing Department were deployed in Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Banff and Turriff where they stopped and inspected 28 taxis and private hire cars.

Several minor vehicle defects were detected and some drivers received warnings for failing to wear their identity badges.
