A charity activites day held at the MACBI Community Hub in October last year raised over £6,000 for breast cancer research.
Angie Urquhart, Jill Moir and Rachael Hay organised a Think Pink Day at the Mintlaw community and sports facility after one of their close friends was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The event, organised in just three weeks, centred round “Bouncing for Boobs” themed Boogie Bounce sessions, with family fun and adult sessions running concurrently with Angie at the helm.
Local netball team Buchan Ladies ran a mini tournament, Laura McWhinnie brought Photohooty, a local Balloon man and Creative Stars did activities, all offering their services for free and donating monies to the cause.
Write Image provided promotional banners free of charge and they received donations from Marathon, Howdens Joinery and Ross Bros.
Ikonic, Murdoch Allan, Quantum Data Solutions, Buchan Braes, John Willox Kitchen & Design, Kenny Smarts “My Secret Ingredient” and many more contributed fantastic raffle prizes and Simply Events provided a minion costume which delighted the children.
Angie, Jill and Rachael said: “A huge thank you to all MACBI staff and manager Connie Strachan who supported us to the fullest with full access to the hub to run classes which included Denise Anderson’s Piyo, Spinning classes with Nicole Minty and Chris Carden, Wendy Peoples for face painting and Yvonne Payne’s family yoga sessions.
“Thanks to Sarah Wood who helped with the banking on the day and sold her mum’s delicious toffee.
“It was utterly heart-warming the level of support we received from our local community, friends, family and MACBI regulars.
“The donations, raffles and help given were overwhelmingly generous and we could not thank everyone enough for their individual contributions which made the day such a huge success.”
The total raised was £6,257, of which £250 went to Friends of Anchor and the rest went to the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.
The University will put the money towards their extensive breast cancer research programme.
