A Fraserburgh and District councillor has missed more than half of full Aberdeenshire Council meetings since his re-election in 2012.
Councillor Michael Watt, Aligned Independent, has attended just 12 out of a possible 25 full council meetings since the 2012 vote and has also failed to appear at meetings of Fraserburgh Community Council this year.
Records obtained by the Herald from Aberdeenshire Council show that fellow councillors Charles Buchan and Brian Topping have perfect attendance records in the same time period while Councillor Tait has missed just three meetings.
Commenting on the attendance record of the local councillors, Invercairn Community Council secretary David Gammack said: “As a community council we would be hoping and expecting that councillors attend the majority of these full council meetings to represent our views as a community.”
Ronnie McNab, Fraserburgh Community Council chairman, said: “Cllr Michael Watt hasn’t put in an appearance for a couple of years.
“He did put in apologies a couple of times but other than that we haven’t heard from him.”
Councillor Watt earned £16,560 basic salary in the last tax year from his role as councillor.
The Fraserburgh Herald contacted Cllr Watt for a comment but has so far he has failed to respond.
