Exciting cup action for Buchan sides

New Deer switched their second round cup tie against Granton to the all weather facility because of a frozen pitch.

It was the away side that took an early lead after 15 minutes, but New Deer hit back five minutes later with a goal from veteran Willie Robbie.

Michael Rhynd gave the home side the lead from a well taken free kick. The visitors were then reduced to 10 men and then New Deer made the one-man advantage pay with goals from Willie Robbie and Damie Duncan to give them a 4-1 lead at half time.

Early in the second half and Damie Duncan made it five and the home side scored twice more through Michael Rhynd and Kyle Tait to finish the scoring and book a place in the third round.

In the Soccerworld Cup semi final New Pitsligo faced Clinton Thistle to see who would meet Faithlie United in the final.

The match ended in a 4-2 win for Clinton Thistle with all six goals coming in the first half.

Clinton went a goal in front only for the home side draw level. Two more goals for the away side gave them a 3-1 lead.

Back came Pitsligo pulling back one but Clinton scored a fourth before half-time to complete the scoring. Winning goals came from a hatrick from MJ Patterson and one from Willie Noble and for the home side was Luke Reekie and Gibby Stephen.
