Hearts went to Aberdeen Sports Centre to take on Lewis United on a glorious afternoon.
Hearts should have taken the lead in the first minute when McLeod burst down the right and fired the ball across the six-yard box and Mizack just missed.
Then Usher put in a loose ball back in but Lewis survived.
In the4ir first attack Davidson crossed and Murray planted a header past Simpson to put Lewis 1-0 ahead.
It got worse for Hearts when Lewis scored again when a lay-off from Shanks found McKinnon who gave Simpson no chance to put Lewis 2-0 up.
They then made it 3-0 when Hearts couldn’t clear the ball and Pirie followed up to score.
Hearts pulled a goal back when Kris Keith found space to put a good ball into Mizack who shot past Cheyne to make it 3-1.
At the start of the second half Hearts should have pulled a goal back when a cross from McNeil found McLeod whose header went over the bar with Cheyne well beaten.
Hearts again pressed the panic button and Fraser got down the right and Simpson parried his effort but McKinnon followed up to score.
Hearts hit back and a Watson corner was hit home by Mark Duncan to make it 4-2.
The visitors made it 4-3 when a swooping move involving McNeil and McLeod saw Clunes ghost in and hit a shot past Cheyne.
Lewis scored again with a fluke goal when substitute Fraser tried a cross from the left but he scuffed the ball and it lobbed over Simpson who should have done a lot better.
Lewis sewed the game up when sub Cruickshank hit a free kick from outside the box past Simpson making it six.
The next game is at home to Newmachar United with a 2pm kick-off.
