Link Up U15s thrash Albion in seven goal thriller

Link Up brought an end to Albion's 100% record.

Coming into this game Albion boasted a 100% record in their nine match league campaign, whilst Link Up were undefeated in all competitions with thirteen wins and one draw.

It was, therefore, no surprise that it was a cagey, even start but Link Up edged ahead after 6 minutes when McCrory played in Douglas on the left of the box and he skipped past two challenges to set up B SIMPSON to fire low under the keeper from 8 yards.

More good lead up play down the left by Douglas saw him cut back to B Simpson whose neat drag-back and lay-off set up McCrory to shoot just wide.

Albion responded immediately, Cheyne dancing past two players before dragging his shot marginally wide from 20 yards.

Dyka’s close control and driving play from midfield was drawing a series of fouls and on 16 minutes one of these allowed Link Up to extend their lead.

Roger lofted the free-kick deep into the Albion box and it was only partially cleared to MASSON, 15 yards out, who lashed a rising drive into the postage-stamp corner.

Ten minutes later DOUGLAS made it 3-0. Latching onto a long ball over the top, he ‘drew’ Jarvie, in the Albion goal, before rolling it past him.

The home team were clearly stung by this and stepped up a couple of gears to regain some momentum before half-time.

Stott made a great save from a dangerous free-kick, under pressure from an in-rushing forward.

Moultrie pulled one back when he ended a run down the right by cutting inside and firing under Stott.

A minute before the break, Albion got it back to 3-2, Cunningham volleying home side-footed after not being picked up at a corner.

The homesters continued to press for an equaliser in the second half but Link Up were well organised and secure at the back.

Albion’s best chance came from another corner which Silvers headed narrowly over after his run wasn’t tracked.

With 10 minutes remaining, DOUGLAS met a loose ball, 25 yards out, with a sweetly struck left foot volley which arced over the keeper and dipped under the bar.

Three minutes from time Roger took possession in midfield, neatly side-stepped an opponent and threaded a through ball to Watt, who advanced on goal to fire in a dipping shot which drew a superb save from Jarvie.

The resultant corner led to a scramble on the Albion goal-line before B SIMPSON forced it home at the near post.

A terrific result for Link Up but there is a long way to go yet in a season which continues to build to a crescendo.
