Fraserburgh Link-Up U14’s League this year was decided by a play off between the Link-Up and Colony Park, after both teams finishing second with the same points.
After a nervous start by both teams, it was Colony who got the upper hand by scoring first, but, minutes later, Link-Up’s John Cardno equalised.
Colony then made it 2-1 then seconds before half-time.
Owen Sutherland made then it 2-2.
After a tense second-half with both teams creating chances, extra time beckoned.
Tenminutes into extra time Colony again went ahead, the second-half of extra time was end to end with only minutes left on the clock when Link-Up’s Marc Summers fired home to take the game to a penalty shoot out.
With nail biting coaches and parents looking on it was down to Link–Up players from 12-yards.
Owen Sutherland, Keiron Moir and John Cardno all converted their penalties, with Colony missing all 3 chances.
A-League football next season for Link-Up was achieved.
After the game, Link-Up coaches Curly and John said it had been a long hard season for the players, but they had battled hard and picked up points where it mattered. Next year will be a different ball game we will be up against far better teams but on this season’s performance, they think, they will hold our own in the top flight.
Curly and John would like to take this time to thank others who have helped out with the team and parents with their help and support, they said it makes it a lot easier for both of them. They also wish to thank the players for their hard work and performance.
The players, meanwhile, would like to thank all who have helped them achieve what has been this season.
