The recently affiliated Swimming Club Banff & Buchan Masters took part in their first Masters Meet at Westhill over the weekend.
Seven of their 20 swimmers took part in the event.
The Silver City Masters Meet proved to be a fantastic oppertunity for the Club to assess their progress since being formed last April by Chairperson and swimmer, Michael Murray.
The swimmers had a fantastic day with each and every member of the group achieving personal bests on all of their races and they also bagged a fantastic 24 medals!
They achieved 11 Golds, 10 Silver and three Bronze, and they were delighted but that wasn’t the only icing on the cake.
The group came 2nd overall against the visiting teams missing out on 1st by 13 points.
And as well as that, one of their swimmers, Ryan Watt, entered eight races and won seven Golds and a Silver for his efforts making him winner in his age group as well.
Michael said: “The progress and team spirit that we have within our club is second to none and not only was that our first meet, which gave us such a boost, we were only affiliated to compete back in November and we only train for one hour a week at the Broch Pool and every second Friday at Banff Pool.
“It is amazing what we can achieve in such a short period of time and we look forward to our future as a Masters Club.”
He added: “Four of our swimmers at the weekend who are over 25 also have eligibility to enter the European Championships later on in the year.
“The four entered 17 races between them and were awarded with 17 eligibilty times to go to the Euros.”
Michael would like to thank their coaches and STO for all of their help and support on the day.
The club has swimmers both in and around Banff & Buchan from as far as Cullen to Peterhead and anyone interested in joining them should call Michael on 07729 027355.
