Strichen’s Adam Allan has taken gold in an unusual World Cup qualifier sports event.

The Mintlaw Academy pupil recently represented Scotland in the Cani Cross section at the British Sleddog Sports Federation (BSSF) National Championships World Cup Qualifier.

Cani Cross is the sport of cross country running with dogs. Originating in Europe as off-season training for the mushing community, it has become popular as a stand-alone sport all over Europe, especially in the UK.

Adam competed over two days in the south of England and his efforts saw him take the gold medal in his class and claim the title of BSSF National Champion for 2014.

The Buchan lad will now represent Great Britain in Lamotte-Beuvron, France, in December at the International Federation of Sleddog Sports European Championships.

Adam has been competing with Siberian Huskies since the age of eight and has won many races and two Scottish National titles.

He’s now going to focus on the European Championships and is hoping to gain sponsorship in the local area to help him prepare for France.
