The World Indoor Bowls Council’s under 25 gents and ladies, singles and mixed pairs championships have officially started at the Fraserburgh Indoor Bowling Club, with the first bowl taking place at the opening ceremony on Tuesday.

The World Indoor Bowling Council president, Gwyn Jones, welcomed bowlers, invited guests and spectators to the event on Tuesday morning, delivering his address to the gathered crowd.

In it, Mr Jones said: “This is the first occasion that any WIBC event has been to the North of Scotland, and I am sure that you will enjoy the facilities that are on offer at Fraserburgh Indoor Bowling Club and Leisure Centre, and you will be delighted to realise that your journey has been worthwhile.”

Mr Jones went on to thank the committee and members of the Fraserburgh Indoor Bowling Club for allowing the championships to take place, and the umpires, markers and all club members for making the running of the event possible.

Fraserburgh Indoor Bowling Club’s president, Marc Thomson, extended his welcome on behalf of the committee and members to all in attendance at the championships, saying in his address: “We feel very privileged that the World Indoor Bowls Council granted us the honour of hosting this prestigious event, and I am sure it will be a great success.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all that has made this week possible. A huge thank you must go to the Leisure Centre staff, members of the management committee, members of the bowling committee and all the volunteers, without whom, this week would not be possible.”
