Aberdeen student dining out on a design

An Aberdeen student is celebrating after winning a competition to design a logo for Scotland’s National Food and Drink Conference.

Robert Gordon University student Rafal Hyps won £300 as well as seeing his design printed on canvas shopping bags and promotional material. The runners up, who each receive £100, were Courtney Yule and Jordyn Finn.

The second National Food and Drink conference takes place on March 7 in Perth and the key themes will be education and innovation within the food and drink industry.

Speakers include Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead, Scottish chef Nick Nairn, and representatives from the World Health Organisation and the US Government.

Mr Lochhead said: “Congratulations to Rafal on his fantastic logo and thank you to the many students who entered. I look forward to seeing the winning design in the run up to next month’s conference – and on many shopping bags at the event.

“Our last conference was extremely successful and I’m sure this year will once again be an ideal opportunity to celebrate Scotland’s many achievements in the food and drink sector. Our fine natural ingredients are increasingly sought after around the globe and this event allows us to celebrate our successes as well as building for the future.”

Rafal Hyps said: “I am very proud to be announced as the winning designer. As a student who studies finance I find that design is a fantastic outlet for my creative side. I am really looking forward to seeing my logo used in the promotional material and public spaces.”
