The Fraserburgh Gala committee met on Tuesday night to discuss how plans were progressing as the return of the Broch event nears ever closer.
Secretary Marie Wallace headed this week’s meeting of the committee, just weeks ahead of the gala, discussing details which were still to be confirmed and events that were scheduled to go ahead.
The meeting opened with the news that the Churches Together group would now be involved with the gala on the final day of events, Sunday, August 19.
Churches Together, it was revealed, would be at the Leisure Centre, the hub of the gala, at around 11am for a Sunday service.
The Fraserburgh Pipe Band was also contacted, with the suggestion that it would play some part in the gala on Saturday, August 18.
Similarly, on Saturday, the Zumbathon, organised by instructor Karen Gibson, will take place from 12noon ‘til 2pm. Adults can participate in the event for £10, with children able to participate for free.
From 12pm onwards on Saturday, pony rides will be available at the links near the Leisure Centre, with Wendy Buchan offering her services to the gala.
However, it was stated that this event would be dependant on the weather.
Avril Reid reported to the committee that a woman had offered a fun fair for the gala, with the committee agreeing that it would be a welcome addition. It was decided that, should the organiser make a donation and be able to provide certain attractions, they would be welcome to participate in the returning gala.
The use of a professional PA system, for a cost of £1200, the appearance of Scotland’s strongest man, Stuart Murray, and the motorcycle and scooter show were also discussed.
However, it was announced that the committee was finding it difficult to source a tent for the outdoor events, such as the pet show, with their original plans falling through.
The sourcing of enough security guards for the event was also brought to the attention of committee members.
The gala committee is scheduled to meet next Wednesday at 6pm in the Leisure Centre to further discuss these areas and confirm more details for the 2012 Broch Gala.
