This Monday, April 23, was World Book Night in the UK, Ireland, Germany and the USA.
Poetry students at Banff and Buchan College in Fraserburgh celebrated by posing with copies of Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘Remains of the Day’, the book gifted to them by their tutor Rory Enright.
Mr Enright said: “I would love to foster in my students the love of reading that has coloured my life. In an area like Fraserburgh, where access to books and reading is not necessarily a given, a free copy of a novel, something which would usually cost eight or nine pounds, represents a nice gift.”
It is hoped that the 24 copies gifted to students will help both with their college work, and with spreading the word about World Book Night to other people in the community.
Mr Enright continues: “We have a number of students studying Literature here at college, and helping to give those students a free lift up the ladder of reading for pleasure is a great privilege.”
Other possible choices for gifting were Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca’.
