This summer a group of 17 local artists are taking part in Home from Home, an event aimed at showcasing the wealth of talent in the Broch.

In addition to a programme of four musical concerts, another element of Home from Home is that local shops, cafes and restaurants have opened their doors to enable local artists to exhibit their work.

At the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, Jill Chandler’s stylish paintings of local wildlife were on display throughout June, while at Kat’s Whiskers, Lynda Buchan’s pen and watercolour tree-themed works are on display along with Faustina Katinaite’s beautiful paintings.

Doug Irvine’s move into abstraction can be viewed at the Cuppa Cafe on Saltoun Square alongside Marie Buchan’s quirky and clever paintings of seagulls.

In total there are 13 venues featuring 17 outstanding local artists.

The venues include Cheers Bar, Cuppa Cafe, Kat’s Whiskers, Kinx Hair and Beauty, Solid Rock Cafe, Scotland’s Larder, Fishermen’s Mission, B Raj, Tigerhill Cafe, Galleon Restaurant, Cafe Connect, Maitland’s Furniture Shop and Findlay’s Hotel.

The artists involved comprise a veritable who’s who of the local arts scene: Marie Buchan, Brian Skinner, Doug Irvine, Nancy Nicoll, Faustina Katinaite, Elinor Grieve’s Art Class, Iris Mutch, Heather McKay Milne, Danial Tait, Lelsey Jennings, Shona Lippe, Billy Watson, Jill Chandler, ‘Reaching Out and Letting Go’ and Lynda Buchan.
