The Atholl Smith Jazz Band provided excellent entertainment at the annual Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society Jazz Lunch which took place last Sunday.
The event was well attended by people of all ages, from ages three to 95.
Food to suit all tastes was provided in a mouth-watering and plentiful buffet lunch which had been prepared by members of the committee. This was enjoyed by the audience whilst listening to the foot-tapping music.
Many standard pieces, some with innovative arrangements, were played to the appreciative crowd, including a beautifully haunting rendition of “Stranger on the Shore”, bringing to mind, for those of a certain age, memories of Acker Bilk. The finale consisted of a mash-up of old favourites including “Down by the Riverside”, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”, “When the Saints Go Marching In” and others of the same type, some of which were sung along to.
The next Jazz Lunch is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 7, 2013.
There will also be many other happenings to look out for in celebration of the FJAS 60th anniversary next year, keep your eyes and ears open so that you do not lose out.
