Visitors to the beach at Rosehearty this summer may have seen local youngsters in full sail, with two groups offering training to those who wish to take up the challenge.
Rosehearty Community Boat Club have been operating on alternate weekends since the beginning of May and Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust have been there throughout the school holidays.
This is the second year that this has taken place and the youngsters invovled are said to have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Rosehearty Community Boat Club have expanded their operation this year, having acquired two more Optimist dinghies, a Miracle dinghy, and a 3.5 metre RIB since last year. The RIB, which was purchased through a grant from the National Lottery, has proved to be a great acquisition with its speed and manoeuvrability a great boon in helping young sailors make progress.
The club have also been gifted a Javelin dinghy, a replica Zulu yole, and a Drascombe Lugger.
If you would like to join in on the fun, contact club secretary Graham Souter by email on firstname.lastname@example.org, telephone 01346 571020, or drop into the club base at the Red Kirk on Ward Road, Rosehearty, any weekday afternoon.
The club will host an open day on Saturday, August 30, from noon to 4pm, where various stalls, teas, inflatables and fun will be on offer. It will provide an opportunity to inspect the fleet, speak to members, and sign up for trips.
