An inaugural supermarket fun day between the town’s Asda and Tesco stores has been hailed a success by those who attended.
The event, which featured a football match between colleagues of both stores, had aimed to raise money for local charities in the area. It was held on Saturday, July 26.
Originally, the event had been organised to raise funds for local youngster Isla McNab to help pave the way for a potentially life-changing surgery in the United States of America. The aim of the fun day was later changed when the local lass had smashed her target of raising enough funds for the operation.
Instead, local charities are now set to benefit from the day.
Lauren Austen-Maycock, who attended the event on behalf of the Owl and Pussycat Centre, told us: “It’s been a good day - great weather for the owls.
“It’s good to bring the community together like this.”
Owls from the centre had been one of the many attractions of the fun day, with inflatables, live music and various stalls on offer for those who attended James Ramsay Park last Saturday.
A Tesco employee, Martin Wisely, commented on the day: “So far, it’s been a success. The weather was on our side,” he added, praising the turnout.
