Step in to the world of 17th Century soldiers at Haddo House and Country Park’s Living History Weekend on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September.

It’s 1643, Sir John Gordon of Haddo is on the run from the Covenanting Army and a small detachment of soldiers have been left alone to defend the house from the enemy.

Re-enactors from the famous Sir Arthur Erskine’s Regiment of Foot will set up a complete military camp in the parkas well as giving authentic food and cooking demonstrations, cast musket balls on site, lead pike and musket displays and bring all the sights and sounds of an authentic soldier’s camp to life.

Follow soldiers on patrols around the park as they hunt for spies and enemy troops; hear the story of the local Gordon family as they rally to the king’s cause; find out about uniforms and weapons and discover why Aberdeenshire saw so many battles in the period.

The climax of the day will be a skirmish on the Scot’s Mile, complete with cannon fire!

Visitor Officer Diana Spencer said: “Haddo has such an amazing and fascinating history, and there’s no better way to discover it than to have it bought to life, right in front of your eyes!”

Entry and parking is free and the camp will be open from 11am-4.30pm.
