A special visitor will be giving the fishy residents some festive treats and you can watch from anywhere via Facebook Live! The event will be broadcast via Facebook on Wednesday, December 23 at 4pm (

Aquarium staff made the decision to go digital this year, after Santa got in touch to ask if the event could be made ‘sole’cially safe.

Aquarium Learning Officer, Marie Dare, said: “This way everyone can stay all cosy and safe at home and watch Santa as he dusts off his dive kit to get into the main tank for his annual visit to feed the fish their Christmas dinners.

“While we will miss seeing the faces of visitors as they watch Scuba Santa, this way we hope many more people will be able to enjoy the event virtually”.

Aquarium manager, Claire Matthews, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to remain open following lockdown earlier this year and are working hard to follow government guidelines to keep everyone safe.

“We know that a visit to the aquarium feels a bit different for the moment but we hope that it is a fun way to discover something new, especially with our Festive Fish Trail, new for the season. As always our enthusiastic team are on hand to answer questions – from a safe distance, of course.”

Macduff Marine Aquarium remains open, with social distancing measures in place, from 11am – 4pm Saturday though Wednesday (closed Thursdays and Fridays) with the exception of December 24 to 26 and December 31 to January 2 (inclusive) when it will be closed.

Anyone planning to visit the aquarium during the Christmas holiday are asked to book in advance as visitor numbers are limited:
